Offering

The Enfield Volunteer Fire Department is once again providing two annual post-secondary education bursaries in the amount of $500.00. If awarded, the funds will be sent by cheque directly to your post-secondary institution.

Purpose and History

The Enfield Volunteer Fire Department was formed in the late summer of 1957 and is one of the oldest departments in the area. The founding members were Harold Ledwidge, Lou Parker, Floyd Logan, Jim Horne, Warren Gilby, Austin Adams, Jack Thompson, Joe Ledwidge, Murray Clarke, Alex McKeen, and Laurie Ledwidge. Lou Parker was the first Enfield Fire Chief.

Enfield Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Trust was created and established in memory of and to honour past members of the Department who have made significant contributions to the fire service and community. This is a way to leave a lasting legacy while supporting the department's goals and vision.

Bursary Criteria

Eligible applicants must:

  1. currently be in grade 12 at Hants East Rural High or Lockview High School;
  2. be enrolled or awaiting confirmation of enrollment in a post-secondary education institution for 2026-2027 academic year;
  3. currently live in the Enfield Fire District which includes the following zone boundaries:
    1. Northern limit at Kali Lane
    2. Southern limit at Springreen Drive
    3. Eastern limit at 710 Oldham Road
    4. Western limit at 1210 Enfield Road

Each applicant is required to submit:

  1. Cover Letter;
  2. Relationship to Fire Service, preferred but not required;
  3. Work Experience;
  4. Financial Need;
  5. Academic Achievement;
  6. Volunteer Work;
    1. Volunteer work is defined and understood as "Participation in unpaid roles that contribute to community".
    2. Demonstrate time via number of hours, location, tasks/duties, and what drew you to volunteer there, and you learned from those experiences.
  7. Letter(s) of reference from teacher(s) and/or supervisor(s), or other(s):
    1. A minimum of one reference letter is required, a maximum of three references.
  8. Unofficial transcripts from current academic year;
  9. Details about your post-secondary institution of interest, include letter of acceptance if received. The name of the institution and program will be sufficient if no letter.

Incomplete or missing applications will not be considered. We do not contact applicants if something is missing; you are required to ensure that the application is complete and submitted before the deadline.

Applications will be reviewed by the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Trust Committee and the bursaries will be awarded to the recipients during their June 2026 high school graduation ceremony. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
